Tour de Belgique New Energy

THE TOUR DE BELGIQUE AUTO 2016 BECOMES “NEW TECHNOLOGY”

THE GREATEST CARS FROM YESTERYEARS AND TODAY BROUGHT TOGETHER ON ONE SAME COURSE

The Tour de Belgique organised from 1948 through to 1974 has always held a special place in the Belgian rally world. Set up in an era where a road event worthy of its name was compulsorily a marathon, it evolved over the years, without ever straying from what has always been its key elements: endurance, regularity and speed. In 2012, the DG Sport organisation decided to give this prestigious event a new lease of life as a regularity rally reserved for historic vehicles.

In 2014, Christian Jupsin’s company broke ground when they upped the historic rally to include modern cars: The Tour de Belgique “New Energy”, an eco-marathon for hybrid, electric and CNG vehicles.

Following two editions where the modern cars were exclusively represented by these “New Energy” cars, this year DG Sport is evolving the Tour de Belgique concept, which now becomes “New Technology”, that is to say open to all of the most modern vehicles equipped with the latest technology making them far cleaner and less energy greedy. As such spectators will have the opportunity on one same course to admire the greatest cars of yesteryears and today’s most modern machines, in other words enough to bring together all the generations of car enthusiasts!

AN EVENT RESOLUTELY NEW TECH!

It is often said that top level motorsport acts as a laboratory and test for innovative solutions that will be integrated into the car of tomorrow, and it is true! But the objective of the Tour de Belgique “New Technology” is different and more tangible: to show the efficiency of these innovative applications to the series in the field.

Because for the first time since many years in Belgium there will finally be a car event open to strictly standard series vehicles. The modern cars accepted at the start must be in a “showroom’ condition and after the rally return to being a demonstration vehicle.

The Tour de Belgique “New Technology” will be based on the principle of a regularity rally respecting the average speeds and strictly adhering to the highway code. But its distinctive feature is that it will take consumption into account.

This will be controlled and formalised by the RACB scrutineers. The overall classification will be established according to the performance index, namely taking into account both the consumption and the recorded penalties.

This one of a kind rally in Belgium, will kick off on Friday 18th November in Nivelles to finish in Spa during the afternoon of Sunday 20th November. Various activities and exhibitions will be on hand both at the start and the finish with a view to drawing a maximum number of spectators to the event. Participation is open to both individuals and makes.

The “New Energy” vehicles, stars of the previous edition, have not been forgotten, and will be given prominence by means of a specific individual classification.

A SEXY EVENT!

The fact of opening the event to modern cars of the latest generation will allow the manufacturers to display for the general public, both in “real” and in action, their sexiest creations, those that draw the attention at the car shows: VW Golf GTi, Ford Focus RS, Peugeot 308 GTi, Renault Clio RS, Volvo V60 306 cv, Audi S3, Opel Astra GTC, Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW M2 or M4, Mercedes AMG C 63, Honda Civic Type R, in fact all the cars one dreams about!

In addition, spectators will have to the opportunity to come close to and admire these vehicles and their teams for free at various locations, allowing DG Sport to create a mass event where the general public can reembrace motorsport!
